Project Warmth, the United Way of Long Island’s emergency heating assistance program, has already exhausted its winter fund and is seeking donations to help replenish it.
This season, the need for heating help has been so great that calls about Project Warmth have doubled compared to last year. A contributing factor is the steadily rising price of oil, project organizers say. This season alone, Project Warmth has raised $660,000 in funds that have provided grants to 1,467 families across Long Island. Of those donations, $5,160 was raised on-line through the Karma411 website.
March 24 is the deadline for making donations through Karma411’s on-line matching grant campaign. The site can be found at www.411karma.com/Markslist/campaign/viewDetails.do?campaignId=36.
