East Hampton Town Attorney Elizabeth Vail To Leave At End Of Year

East Hampton Town Attorney Elizabeth Vail will leave her post at Town Hall when her current appointment is up at the end of the year.
Ms. Vail has been the East Hampton Town Attorney since 2013 and worked previously for eight years as an Assistant Southampton Town Attorney and two years as an Assistant Suffolk County District Attorney.

Ms. Vail, a Southampton native, said this week she’ll be taking a job at Farrell Fritz, a Uniondale-based law firm with offices in Water Mill. She will be joining former Southampton Town attorneys David Gilmartin Jr. and David Gilmartin Sr. at the firm.

“It was a privIlege and an honor to represent the Town Board and Town of East Hampton as Town Attorney for the past two years,” she said in an email on Tuesday.

Supervisor Larry Cantwell said that Ms. Vail has not submitted her official letter of resignation yet but had informed the board recently that she did not plan to seek a new appointment as Town Attorney. Mr. Cantwell said the board has not yet discussed possible replacements for Ms. Vail next year.

Town Attorney appointments are typically made at the board’s biennial organizational meeting.
