As part of its Distinguished Lecture Series, Stony Brook Southampton will welcome Dr. Roberto Lenton to discuss global matters of water resource management on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in Duke Lecture Hall. ?Dr. Lenton is chair of the technical committee of the Global Water Partnership, hosted by the Earth Institute. Concurrently he is co-chair of the Millennium Project Task Force on Water and Sanitation and serves as the executive director of the Secretariat for International Affairs and Development of the International Research Institute for Climate Prediction, a member center of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. The International Research Institute supports developing countries’ efforts to effectively cope with climate variability and adapt for climate change. ?Previously, Dr. Lenton was director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Division at the United Nations Development Program in New York. In that capacity, he was responsible for setting policies in natural resources, energy and environment, as well as overseeing special programs in drylands management and building. A citizen of Argentina, Dr. Lenton holds a doctorate of philosophy in Water Resources Systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ?The event is free and open to the public.
