DEC grant to help fight invasive plants

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has granted $100,000 to the Nature Conservancy in East Hampton to fight invasive plants at the 607-acre Cedar Point County Park.

DEC officials announced last month that 10 municipalities and organizations across New York State would receive a total of $555,000 to fight species that harm “ecosystems, food supplies, landscaping, industry and infrastructure.”

Kathy Schwager, an invasive species specialist for the Nature Conservancy, said that the money will be to pay for a crew to remove some of the non-native species in the park.
