A one-story house at 146 Old Northwest Road suffered “fairly serious” damage in a fire on Saturday morning, according East Hampton Town ?Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Jim ?Dunlop.?No one was home when the fire started, and no one was injured.?Mr. Dunlop said the East Hampton Fire Department received a call around 9:50 a.m. reporting a brush fire, but when firemen arrived they found a fire inside the house instead.?The blaze damaged about 50 percent of the house, including the kitchen and a bedroom, Mr. Dunlop said, and took about an hour to put out. He did not know what caused the fire.?Another house, on Miller Avenue ?in Montauk, suffered minor damage early Saturday evening when a tarp ?inside caught fire and scorched part ?of the floor. Members of the Mon-?tauk Fire Department extinguished the fire.?Police said that fire could have been caused by a cigarette.?
