Southampton Hospital will hold its next Health Insights presentation, “Anti-Aging Nutrition,” on Thursday, April 10, at 5:15 p.m. in the Hospital’s Parrish Memorial Hall.?Sandy Alfano, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will speak. Ms. Alfano is a graduate of the University of Delaware and has worked for the hospital for 12 years as an outpatient nutrition counselor and specialist in diabetes education and weight loss. Her lecture will focus on how the assumed inevitable consequences of aging—wrinkles, memory loss, risk for heart disease, osteoporosis and cancer—stem more from lifestyle choices than from the aging process. The kinds of food people eat can affect how well they age, how the risk of disease increases with a poor diet and how including certain foods on a regular basis as part of a balanced eating plan can help prevent disease as well as delay the aging process.?The lecture is free, but reservations are required. To make reservations, call 726-8700, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
