The article “Bishop Skewered on Immigration,” which appeared in the March 27 edition of The Southampton Press, incorrectly quoted U.S. Representative Tim Bishop regarding his stance on a proposed hiring hall in Southampton Village. Mr. Bishop has not promoted the use of hiring halls as a permanent solution to problems resulting from illegal immigration. The congressman put his support behind a proposed hiring site after being approached by Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley. Mr. Bishop, in a prepared statement, said: “Hiring halls are in no way an acceptable permanent solution to our immigration problems. I have never supported the use of taxpayer dollars for hiring halls on Long Island. That said, they do offer a temporary alternative of last resort to keep job seekers off the streets while the federal government attempts to resolve the root problems. This is a position I have held during my entire time in office.”
