Eastport South Manor’s Chelsea Kull hit an RBI single that plated Melanie Boccio in the bottom of the sixth inning last Thursday, March 27, to secure the 3-2 win against Walt Whitman.?The Lady Sharks went into the top of the inning with a 1-0 lead, but two errors allowed Walt Whitman to take a 2-1 lead. Catherine Havens started the bottom of the inning for the Lady Sharks with a single and came home to tie the game after Boccio hit a triple.?”It was a good game, period,” Eastport South Manor head coach Steve Giacolone said. “We got some timely hits when we needed it.”?Giacolone was excited that his team was able to beat Walt Whitman, which is ranked in the top 10 in Suffolk County, according to Newsday. He gave Whitman a lot of credit since it is a team that made it to the Class AA county semifinals last year.?”This was a statement game for us,” he said. “It showed that we’re a good team.”?Havens pitched the full seven innings and gave up just two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. She also did well at the plate going 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Boccio also went 2 for 3 with a run scored.?The Lady Sharks played on Wednesday at home against Islip and will play at Kings Park today, April 3, at 4 p.m. They will return home to play Sayville on Monday, April 7, at 4 p.m.
