Regarding your article “Slow to Take” [Residence, April 2 &3], I can attest to the excellent functioning of the Open RealNet Exchange (OREX) system east of the canal.
However, I believe that comments in the article are misleading in the matter of seasonal rental listings. They are generally not part of any sharing among brokerages and are, in fact, most often held close, if not ferociously guarded, by individual firms.
Any owner/landlord who believes that there is significant cooperation in the dissemination of seasonal listings is seriously mistaken.
If the agent community is to best serve owners/landlords and incoming rental seekers alike, should there not be a cooperative system such as OREX for rental listings? This would assure optimum exposure for landlords, and informed and efficient service to renters.
