Members of the Hampton Bays Fire Department responded on Friday evening to a small fire at a two-story home on Tramposch Lane in Hampton Bays. No injuries were reported.
When firefighters responded to the alarm at 7:12 p.m. they observed smoke coming from the second floor of the home. The four people living in the house were not home at the time of the blaze, according to fire officials.
The fire was contained to a small office on the second floor of the house, according to Southampton Town Fire Marshal Chris Hansen. He added that the family will be allowed to move back in.
Mr. Hansen said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but he thinks it was electrical in nature and might have been caused by a failure in an electrical component.
“The fire was under control within minutes and the Hampton Bays Fire Department cleared the scene in a little bit more than an hour,” Mr. Hansen said.
The extent of the damage has not yet been determined. “Insurance investigators are still looking at the monetary amount of the damage done to the house,” Mr. Hansen said.
Firefighters were joined at the scene by members of the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
