Former Riverhead resident William Richard Davin of Frederick County, Virginia, and formerly of Naples, Florida, died on April 3, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia. He was 80.
Born 1927 in New York City to William Joseph Davin and Catherine M. Weir, Mr. Davin served as a seaman in the Merchant Marines during World War II. On September 4, 1948, he married Eleanor Rose Mihlik in The Bronx.
He worked as a truck driver with Northville Dock Corporation in Riverhead, and later worked as a police officer with the evening beach patrol at Naples Pier in Florida. He retired in 2002.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Davin is survived by a son, Richard William Davin of East Quoque; a daughter, Priscilla Dee Davin Ferraro of Virginia; three grandsons, Richard Davin Jr. of Hampton Bays, Jason Davin of East Quoque and Anthony Ferraro of Indiana; a granddaughter, Tia Smith of Tennessee; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Rozett; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Hope Ferraro.
The family received visitors on April 5 at Omps Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia. A memorial service followed with the Reverend Rick Kerfoot officiating.
