The Eastport South Manor boys lacrosse team controlled much of the tempo in its game against Harborfields on Tuesday to come away with a 15-2 win.
After Harborfields scored the first goal of the game, the Sharks (1-1 Division II, 2-2 overall) came right back and ended the first half with a 9-0 run to take a 9-1 lead. Eastport South Manor head coach Kevin Huff was very pleased with his team’s performance.
“I think we played well,” he said. “We feel that we’re pretty athletic, so we wanted to get out and run the ball and help pace the tempo of the game, and we did. We have three midfielders who can run and we wanted to push the ball in transition.”
The Sharks had a 14-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter but two late goals—one from each team—coming in the last 30 seconds of the game rounded out the score. Harborfields scored its second and final goal of the game, its first since the opening quarter, with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Senior Sean Evans scored the last goal of the game for the Sharks as time expired.
“We finished the game the way we started, and that’s what we’re looking to do,” Huff said.
Junior Alec Rosenberg scored three goals for Eastport South Manor, as did senior Tom Guido. Freshman Allan Henderson had two goals and four assists, while fellow freshman Colin Flaherty scored two goals and had two assists. Senior goalie Rich Parez had nine saves on 11 shots for the Sharks.
Eastport South Manor lost its first Division II game of the season, 11-2, to Comsewogue at home on April 2. Junior Don Flaherty and Colin Flaherty scored the two goals for the Sharks. Parez had 17 saves in goal.
Eastport South Manor played Rocky Point yesterday away. The Sharks will play in Sayville today at 4:30 p.m.
