While it is wonderful to hear of the generosity of Bobby and Dhonna Goodale, [“Goodales Dig Deep for a Good Cause,” March 27], I read that this donation of $1 million raises the Peconic Bay Medical Center’s capital campaign fund to $6.5 million.
In February, the new $8 million emergency department opened and the next part of the expansion project is the new surgical wing. At the same time, nurses are to be laid off, as well as ancillary staff. When you have a larger ED, how can you hope to staff it properly with less nurses and ancillary staff instead of more?
Mr. Goodale said he has heard of several prospective donors who have expressed interest in following the lead set by him and his wife. It would be great if some future donors would contribute to the operating budget. Most hospitals are hiring, but Peconic Bay, although expanding its facility, is firing?
