Project Warmth, the United Way of Long Island’s emergency heating assistance program, has already exhausted its winter fund and is seeking donations to help replenish it.
This season, the need for heating help has been so great that calls about Project Warmth have doubled compared to last year. A contributing factor is the steadily rising price of oil, project organizers say. This season alone, Project Warmth has raised $660,000 in funds that have provided grants to 1,467 families across Long Island.
