Hank De Cillia has hit the proverbial nail on its head regarding County Road 39 [“The ‘new’ County Road 39—blessing or curse?” Viewpoint, April 16] .
I thought we were told that the speed would be reduced because the roads would be patrolled. Come on, folks. Be responsible, elected officials.
Narrow the lanes to 10 feet wide and reduce the speed automatically without the need for policing. This will allow wider turning lanes that should be taken out completely once the roundabouts are constructed: they work. When in doubt, roundabout.
Add a divider and some aesthetics. Duh.
Keep the engineers out of it and get the correct information from Congress for the “New Urbanism” and in particular www.cnu.org/node/355. These folks are architects, urban planners, engineers, builders and interested parties of smart growth.
