Ms. Spellman graduated from Hampton Bays High School where she was an active student and participated in a number of activities, including cheerleading. She attended Coastal Carolina College of South Carolina where she was a pre-law student, but was only able to complete a year and a half due to her illness.

While at the college, she joined the Alpha Delta Sorority, and more than 30 of her sorority sisters traveled to Hampton Bays to participate in her funeral service.

Ms. Spellman enjoyed flowers and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her parents, Kent and Suzanne (née King) Spellman; a brother, Kent Jr.; her grandparents, Bud and Winnie Spellman and Horace King, all of Hampton Bays; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her grandmother, Joan King.

A parish prayer service was held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on April 18. A funeral mass, officiated by Monsignor Dennis Regan, was held at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church in Hampton Bays on April 19, with her family serving as pallbearers and readers. Interment followed at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays, where bagpipe players performed and Ms. Spellman’s sorority sisters sang during the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, 26707 76th Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, where the family stayed many times during Ms. Spellman’s illness, would be appreciated by the family.
