Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will be a guest on WLIU 88.3 FM’s “In the Morning with Bonnie Grice” radio show on Friday, May 2, at 8:20 a.m. Mr. Carter will discuss his new book, “A Remarkable Mother,” an effective, funny and moving portrait of his mother, Bessie Lillian Gordy Carter, known as “Miss Lillian.”
A product of the Old South, the irrepressible Miss Lillian ignored the pervasive restraints of racial segregation, was a registered nurse who served as a Peace Corps volunteer, ran her own pecan farm and was a popular public speaker and highly effective campaigner for her son.
Mr. Carter was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, is a best-selling author and founder of the non-profit Carter Center. He has devoted his post-presidential career to global humanitarian, health and peace initiatives.
“In the Morning with Bonnie Grice” is Long Island’s only daily arts and culture magazine featuring two hours of diverse interviews, weekly roundtable panels and commentators, and reports from Long Island and Connecticut artists, art organizations, and art and cultural leaders. It is broadcast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday, from the WLIU 88.3 FM studio in Southampton, the Long Island University Public Radio Network serving Long Island and Connecticut.
