Stolen car in Montauk found in bay

A car stolen from Montauk was found in Gardiner’s Bay on April 21.

Earlier that day, a 47-year-old Montauk man told police that his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt had been stolen between 11 p.m. on April 20 and 6:40 a.m. on April 21 from outside his house on Fort Pond Boulevard. Later that day, a passerby spotted the car in the bay, off the end of Flaggy Hole Road, and reported it to police.

Police said that the car was entirely submerged underwater at high tide.

The car was removed by a towing company with help from the town scuba team, and was later impounded by the East Hampton Town Police.

As of Tuesday, April 29, police did not have any suspects in the theft of the car.
