Southampton School District

The PTA will host a Meet the Candidates Night on Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. in the intermediate school library. Six candidates running for two open Board of Education seats will be available to answer questions from community members.

Southampton High School

The school will host a scholarship fund-raiser and a jazz café night on Friday, May 9. The Sandjai Ramkhelawan soup dinner raises funds to provide a scholarship for a student pursuing a career in art. Sandjai, an outstanding art student, was killed in a car accident in 2000, the year he would have graduated.

Admission to the dinner is $8.

The third annual Jazz Café Night will follow at 7 p.m., where members of the SIS and SHS Jazz bands will be performing in the cafeteria. It promises to be a very exciting and fun evening.

Senior Brittany Finder was selected by the Student Council as the Rotary Student of the Month for May. Brittany is currently the senior class vice president, a student council representative, and a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.

She has also been a member of the varsity tennis team, natural helpers, Parrish Art Collaborative, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and was part of the Spanish exchange. Brittany will attend Mount Holyoke College in the fall. She is the daughter of Rick and Anita Finder of Water Mill.

The Southampton High School Student Council has elected senior Julia DiBenedetto as the Lions Club Girl of the Month for May. She is the current president of the Student Council, captain of Varsity Gymnastics, and former vice president of the Student Council. Julia, the daughter of Laurie DiBenedetto of Southampton and Jeffrey DiBenedetto of Monterey, California, will be attending Syracuse University in the fall.

Southampton Elementary School

The school will hold its spring concerts the week of May 19.
