Tax watchdog

As a senior citizen and member of the Hampton Bays Board of Education, I know firsthand the plight of our taxpayer residents and in particular, senior citizens. It has been my goal to bring to Hampton Bays the best affordable education for our children.

That is why I am supporting the candidacy of George Leeman for the Board of Education in Hampton Bays. George Leeman knows this community. He has operated a business here, raised three children here, and given community service here. He knows the burden of taxes. He has worked diligently to keep taxes as low as possible—next year only 3.3 percent higher.

For this reason George Leeman worked hand-in-hand with our elected officials to achieve what many thought impossible: tax relief. Working with our elected officials at the local, county and state level, George Leeman has accomplished so much for all of us in Hampton Bays:

1. PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) Funds: Once thought impossible, George Leeman worked and cajoled local officials at meetings, in hallways, with correspondence and by personal contact to receive, on behalf of beleaguered taxpayers, $1.3 million in funding.

2. State Aid: Working with our elected officials—State Assemblyman Fred Thiele and Senator Ken LaValle—George Leeman fought for and achieved a whopping 25 percent increase in our state aid; that translates to more than a million dollars.

3. Green Technology: Planning ahead, George Leeman fought for a green middle school with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification to reduce energy and maintenance costs for years to come.

The children of this community continue to receive a quality education at an affordable price. I urge one and all to vote for George Leeman and, in particular, senior citizens. They have a tax watchdog in George Leeman.
