Our Lady of the Hamptons school news

Eighth-grader Jack Sullivan was judged the winner of the 2008 OLH Spelling Bee. Coordinated by David Gillespie, the bee is the first step leading toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2009.

Jack, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sullivan of Hampton Bays, edged out fourth-grader Robert Mollo of Aquebogue for the title. Third place was won by seventh-grader Rachel Klink, who had a tough time besting fifth-grader Elizabeth Ottati, who placed fourth.

The entire school community gathered at a Thanksgiving Feast prepared by the parents and led by Therese Sweeney. A full dinner was served to the 300 students, teachers and their special guests, including the bus drivers, crossing guards and benefactors.

Plans are being finalized for the December 9 Family Advent Service. Traditional reading and carols will be presented by the Joyful Noise, Hamptones and Dance Troupes. The service will begin at 7 p.m. and end with the blessing of the Advent wreath, crèche and lighting of the Christmas tree. The public is welcome to attend.

The 12th annual Bucks for Books Raffle will be held on February 6, 2009. The $100 chances are available at the school. Call 283-9140.
