Nelson Brientnall Dane Jr. of and Quogue and Sarasota, Florida, died on Saturday, December 6, at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, of heart failure. He was 81.
Mr. Dane was born on May 15, 1927, in Short Hills, New Jersey. He graduated from Princeton University in 1949, and served in the United States Navy for three years before being honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant junior grade.
He was a real estate investor for more than 20 years in New Jersey and founded the Nelson B. Dane Real Estate Investment Company.
Mr. Dane was an avid golfer and was a member since 1973 of Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, where he maintained a residence on the club’s grounds for more than 15 years. He was also a member of the Sara Bay Country Club and the Field Club, both in Sarasota, the Quogue Beach Club and the Quogue Field Club.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Nancy Greeff Sartorius Dane; three sons, Grant, Scott and Nelson III; a daughter, Kate; and granddaughter, Danielle.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13, at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Westhampton Beach at noon. Interment will follow at Quogue Cemetery.
