Man charged with attempted sexual misconduct

A Westhampton Beach man was arrested by Westhampton Beach Village Police on December 3 after authorities said he inappropriately touched his ex-girlfriend.

Police said Jose Mejia, 34, entered the Rogers Avenue home of his 36-year-old ex-girlfriend at around 4 p.m. on November 9 and found her in her bedroom. Once inside, Mr. Mejia locked the bedroom door, and “violently said he wanted to be with her,” according to police reports.

Authorities said Mr. Mejia then inappropriately grabbed at his ex-girlfriend until the victim’s daughter unlocked the bedroom door, prompting Mr. Mejia to flee the scene. He turned himself in at police headquarters on Mill Lane at noon on December 3.

Mr. Mejia was charged with attempted sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned later the same day and posted $500 bail. He is set to return to court at a later date.
