Talking About This Generation

Richard Delano, a member of the Bridgehampton School Board, will discuss “Millennials and K-12 Education” on Wednesday, January 21, in the Bridgehampton School gymnasium from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Mr. Delano is a co-founder of LifeCourse Associates, a consulting and publishing firm that bases its work on the generational analysis of authors William Strauss and Neil Howe.

“Known as Millennials, the younger members of this generation now fill our schools, and older Millennials are our newest teachers and parents. Understanding the unique collective personality of this generation can help schools and employers capitalize on its significant strengths and avoid its potential limitations,” Mr. Delano said.

“The oldest Millennial is now 27. We know them as our sons and daughters, perhaps as our grandchildren. What you will learn about them as a generation will surprise, intrigue, inspire and inform you,” Mr. Delano added.

Mr. Delano has done presentations on the Millennial generation before such groups as the National Education Association, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, corporate leadership conferences at companies like Sunoco, and has keynoted Long Island gatherings including the Long Island Superintendent-College President annual meeting at Adelphi University and the Long Island Workforce Summit.

Mr. Strauss and Mr. Howe are the authors of “Generations,” “The Fourth Turning,” “Millennials Rising: The Next Great Generation,” “Millennials Go to College II,” “Millennials and K – 12 Education” and the forthcoming publication “Millennials in the Workplace.”
