The Westhampton Beach boys basketball team fell to 1-7 in League VI and 3-9 overall after its sixth straight loss, a 46-36 defeat at the hands of Mt. Sinai on Friday. Prior to that loss, the Hurricanes were downed 65-32 at Bayport/Blue Point on January 13.
A 21-8 advantage in the first quarter allowed Mt. Sinai to take control of the game and earn its first league victory of the season against the Canes. Hurricane Tyler Jones finished with 18 points to lead all scorers, while Michael Corrigan added eight points.
In the loss to the Phantoms (5-3, 9-5), the Canes scored just two points in the first quarter, falling behind 17-2. They were down 40-14 at halftime, as the game got out of reach. Corrigan finished with 13 points while Jones had nine points.
Westhampton Beach was scheduled to host Amityville on Tuesday and will visit league leader East Hampton on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game before hosting second-place Elwood/John Glenn on January 30 at 6:15 p.m.
