Members of the Sagaponack Village Board expressed annoyance at their monthly meeting on Tuesday that the village was not informed of East Hampton and Southampton towns’ plans to expand the Poxabogue Golf Center.
“I’m surprised that no one’s talked about it,” said Mayor Don Louchheim. “Talk about arrogance. … We worry if someone wants to build a 500-square-foot addition to a business.”
Earlier this month, town officials met with Ed Wankel of Long Island Golf Management, the company that manages Poxabogue, and consultant Dick Ward of Dick Ward Associates to hear an outline of the proposed expansion and renovation plan. Among the suggested improvements to the center, which is located on Montauk Highway between East Hampton and Southampton towns, are to develop a practice area, expand parking, and construct a miniature golf course and a new clubhouse. Plans also include improvements to the existing driving range.
Mr. Louchheim said the plan includes adding lights to the proposed miniature golf course to encourage playing at night, which concerns several members of the board since the original agreement between the two towns prohibited night activity.
Sandra Cirincione, Southampton Town’s assistant management services administrator, said Wednesday that the plan does not include adding lights to the miniature golf course.
Ultimately, the Sagaponack board decided to find out what rights it has to get involved in the planning process.
