Woman charged with attacking Southampton Town Police officer

A 49-year-old East Quogue woman was arrested last month after she was accused of assaulting a Southampton Town Police officer.

Andrea Riggin was arrested at her Pine Tree Court home at around 10:10 a.m. on May 23 and charged with second-degree harassment, a misdemeanor, according to authorities.

Police were called to the home after receiving a call from Ms. Riggin’s landlord, who reported that her tenant was acting erratically. When police arrived at the scene, they said that Ms. Riggin attacked Town Police Officer Kevin Gwinn, a 21-year veteran of the department. Officer Gwinn was not injured in the altercation.

After she was subdued, Ms. Riggin was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where she underwent a psychiatric evaluation, police said. She was released after being issued an appearance ticket returnable to Southampton Town Justice Court.

Trespasser Arrested

A 22-year-old man from Arizona was arrested by Southampton Town Police early Sunday morning after they said he broke several windows, screens and a door on a Bridgehampton home and was then found passed out in a nearby pool house.

At 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, police arrested Daniel Martineau and charged him with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and third-degree trespassing, a misdemeanor.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a call from the home’s caretaker who reported that an unknown man was on the property. When they arrived, police said they found Mr. Martineau passed out inside the home’s pool house.

Upon further investigation, police determined that Mr. Martineau had
been drinking with friends at a local bar and they dropped him off near the intersection of Lumber Lane and
Narrow Lane. Authorities said Mr.
Martineau first attempted to gain access to the main house but was unsuccessful.

Mr. Martineau was transported to police headquarters for processing. He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Monday morning and released on $500 cash bail.
