The Sag Harbor School Board is expected to fill a vacant seat among its ranks on Friday.
Seven candidates have tossed their names into the ring for consideration to take a seat last occupied by veteran member Walter Wilcoxen, who quit in July shortly before he was expected to take the oath of office for another term.
Following public debate at a recent School Board meeting, the board opted to interview all the candidates and make its own selection, rather than hold a special election or leave the seat open until next spring’s regular election.
The board was expected to hold a public forum on Tuesday at the Pierson Middle/High School library and interview candidates Susan Kinsella, Marian Cassata, David Diskin and Steve Clarke individually, without their fellow candidates present.
On Friday, the board is scheduled to round out its interviews with candidates Thomas Re, Tom Gleeson and Jonathan Glynn, at a public meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Following Friday’s forum, board members said they would go into executive session at 7:30 p.m. and reopen the meeting to the public at 8 p.m. to appoint the new board member.
