Suffolk County Department of Public Works crews were expected to finish shoring up Long Beach Road in Noyac by the end of next week, after the water-flanked stretch was undermined by Superstorm Sandy last fall.
The $150,000 project—which is reimbursable through the Federal Emergency Management Agency—involves restoring rock revetments knocked loose in the storm.
“They’re repairing the rock structure that was there,” said Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman. “This is all done under a permit the county has related to repairing Sandy-damaged roadways.”
The work began on March 12 and crews recently finished the repair on the bay side. Over the next week and a half, they are expected to repair the creek side of the road.
The road remains open to traffic.
