The Pierson baseball team’s lefty ace, Colman Vila, tossed a no-hitter in his team’s 9-0 home win over Shelter Island in the opening game of their three-game series on Monday.
Vila struck out 17 and allowed just one walk. It was Vila’s first no-hitter this season, but he has not allowed more than two hits in any of his six starts this season. He has also allowed only one run all year.
Pierson improved to 14-1 with the win.
Schmidt Leads Mariners
Southampton’s number one starter, Wyatt Schmidt, kept his perfect record intact on Monday, improving to 6-0 on the season in his team’s 3-1 win over Mattituck on the North Fork.
Schmidt allowed just two hits and one unearned run while racking up five strikeouts and no walks as the Southampton baseball team improved to 14-2 in League VIII.
It was the opening game of the series between the teams, which is the final series of the regular season for both. The Mariners are in first and Mattituck
is in second place in the standings.
Bonac Lax Falls To Islip
The East Hampton boys lacrosse team fell to 4-7 in Division II, 4-9 overall, with a 10-3 loss at Islip on Monday.
Islip (6-4 in Division II) was up 5-1 at halftime and steadily pulled away in the second half. Drew Harvey, Jamie Wolf and Seamus McLoughlin each scored for East Hampton.
