The eastbound lane of County Road 39 in Southampton between Hampton Road and David Whites Lane is expected to be closed on Friday for a few hours beginning at 11 a.m.
The closure, which may last until 3 p.m., is due to Long Island Rail Road safety upgrades at the grade crossing just east of David Whites Lane, according to Tom Neely, Southampton Town’s public transportation and traffic safety director.
Traffic will be directed to Hampton Road and David Whites Lane in Southampton Village.
The same stretch was closed for the same reason between 11 a.m. and noon on Thursday, with no advance notice, he said.
A larger stretch of the busy highway was closed for several nights in March while the LIRR upgraded the crossing as part of a County Road 39 widening project.
