Update 8 p.m.:
Southampton Town Police identified the deceased man as 51-year-old Fabian Seyrig De Saussure of Bridgehampton, in a press release on Sunday evening. He was found hanging from a tree, police said.
Mr. Seyrig De Saussure had attempted suicide in November 2011 when he concocted a mixture of chemicals in a five-gallon plastic bucket to create a noxious chemical. He changed his mind about killing himself and drove to Southampton Hospital, causing the Emergency Department entrance to be shut down for several hours that morning as hazardous materials crews worked to decontaminate the scene.
He was arrested by Southampton Village Police and charged with a felony for the action. He said in January 2012 that he wasn’t intending on hurting anyone else.
Southampton Town Detective Division is continuing the investigation of his death and asks anyone with information to call Detectives at (631) 702-2230.
