Southampton Town officials have confirmed that Mr. Fennell is a town employee for the Parks and Recreation Department who was on duty at the time of the accident. It is unclear at this time what position Mr. Fennell holds with the Parks Department.
Mr. Fennell was driving a town-owned 2005 Dodge pickup truck eastbound on County Road 39 when he struck another vehicle at the intersection of North Bishop Lane.
UPDATE: Sunday, 7 a.m.
Southampton Town Police arrested Kevin Fennell, 52, of Hampton Bays and charged him with felony DWI and failing to use his designated lane, a violation, following the 12:11 p.m. crash.
He was transported to police headquarters in Hampton Bays and was expected to be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Sunday morning, police said.
In a release sent out late Saturday night, police are now saying there were no injuries as a result of the accident.
A two-car crash on County Road 39 in Southampton sent one driver to the hospital and the other to Southampton Town Police headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
According to Town Police Sergeant John Boden, a small pickup truck and a sedan collided just after noon near the intersection of North Bishop Lane and County Road 39, in front of P.C. Richard & Son. The right eastbound lane was closed briefly for clean up.
Sgt. Boden said that he did not know how they collided, but that charges will be filed because one driver was allegedly driving while intoxicated. He said the other driver was taken to Southampton Hospital by Southampton Volunteer Ambulance with minor injuries.
