Montauk
The Montauk Memorial Weekend Committee will hold a weekend of remembrance and honor in Montauk. Flags will be flown during the day, and candles will be lit on Saturday evening, May 25, on the Village Green. A free Montauk fish and chips meal will be offered to all veterans at the Montauk Coast Guard Station on Saturday, May 25, at 5 p.m. Guests of any veteran may attend for a donation of $20 per person, or $10 for children 10 and younger. A Bike Blessing will be held on Sunday, May 26, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a parade at noon, starting at Kirk Park and culminating on the Village Green. Following the parade, presentations and remembrances will be held. On Monday, May 27, at 8 a.m., “Morning Colors” will be presented on the Village Green. Services with prayers and speeches of recognition will follow. At 12:30 p.m., the flag will be raised to full staff, and then at sunset, taps will be played and the flag will be retrieved. East Hampton
Delegates from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Everit Albert Herter Post 550, with the assistance of American Legion Post 419, will fire honors at various locations and monuments on Sunday, May 26. Participants are welcome and should meet at the VFW at 8 a.m. On Memorial Day, May 27, at 9 a.m., a ceremony will be held at Main Beach in East Hampton in honor of those lost at sea. Immediately following that, at 10:30 a.m., the annual East Hampton Village Memorial Day parade will step off near Guild Hall on Main Street in East Hampton and will culminate at the Memorial Green, where speeches and a ceremony will be held. Sag Harbor/North Haven
The Village of Sag Harbor’s Memorial Day parade will step off at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27, from the World War II monument across from Mashashimuet Park, and will continue down Main Street to Marine Park on Bay Street. Bridgehampton
The annual Bridgehampton Memorial Day observance will begin on Monday, May 28, at 9:30 a.m. at the war monument at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Ocean Road. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Nathaniel Howell Topping Post 580, will be joined by the Bridgehampton Fire Department and the Bridgehampton School Band in observance of the holiday. Afterward, there will be a reception at the Bridgehampton Firehouse. In the event of rain, the observance itself will be held at the firehouse on School Street. For more information, call 537-0336.
Southampton
The Village of Southampton Commission on Veterans Patriotic Events will hold its Memorial Day service on Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Agawam Park. Preceding the service, there will be a short parade from the First Presbyterian Church, down Jobs Lane, to the park. An invocation will be offered by Father Michael Vetrano, and a benediction by Rabbi Rafe Konikov will follow. Music will be provided by Kristen Steinke and the Southampton High School Chorus. A speech will be given by NBC’s Chuck Scarborough, who served in the U.S. Air Force before starting his television career. For more information, call 283-0247.
Hampton Bays
American Legion Hand-Aldrich Post 924 members will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m., at the Post Veterans Park on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays. After the ceremony, at approximately 10:45 a.m., marchers will assemble and proceed north on Ponquogue Avenue, then west on Montauk Highway to Good Ground Cemetery. East Quogue
The Memorial Day parade, sponsored by the East Quogue Fire Department, will be held on Sunday, May 26, at 1 p.m. The parade kicks off at Walker Avenue and will proceed along Montauk Highway to Bay Avenue. Afterward, a ceremony will be held, with a speech by Chief Warrant Officer Michelle Roxbury, a Black Hawk helicopter pilot with New York Army National Guard, Bravo Company 3-142, at the East Quogue Firehouse in front of the monument. Quogue
A service will be held in honor of all veterans on Sunday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at the veterans area in front of the Quogue Firehouse.
Westhampton
American Legion Post No. 834 will lead a ceremony honoring veterans on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, starting at 11 a.m. at the Westhampton Cemetery, located just north of Montauk Highway. Speeches and remembrances will be offered. For more information, call 288-3263.
Remsenburg
There will be a Memorial Day march beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24, weather permitting, from the Remsenburg-Speonk School to the war monument at South Country Road and South Phillips Avenue. A service will take place at 10:30 a.m., with a reading by students and music by the school band. Members of the Eastport American Legion and an Eastport Fire Department truck will march with students. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the school gym.
Eastport
Members of Eastport American Legion Post No. 1545 will host the annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at the Eastport Elementary School, with members of the Eastport Fire Department and music by the Eastport South Manor Band. A reception with speeches by service members will be held afterward, at 11 a.m., at the Legion Post. For more information, call 325-2110
