Well, Memorial Day is finally here and what a great weekend it will be!
On Saturday, May 25, our Village Green will come alive with festivities marking the 10th anniversary of our beautiful park. This not-to-be-missed event, sponsored by our East Quogue Civic Association and East Quogue Chamber of Commerce, will run from 2 to 6 p.m.
For foodies there will be pulled pork and brisket from East Quogue’s own Ron Campsey of the New Moon Café. Also, sausage heroes and pizza from Scotto’s, and clams on the half shell from Brewsters Seafood Market, both of Hampton Bays. Hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by our local Boy Scouts will also be on the menu.
To wash down all of this great food, the Southampton Publick House will have a great selection of beer and wine. And, for the perfect ending, there will be ice cream treats from Atilla, East Quogue’s Mr. Softee!
Then on Saturday evening, Station, East Quogue’s newest restaurant, opens at the junction of Montauk Highway and Old Country Road. I recently took the grand tour and all I can say is it’s going to be fabulous!
Rafe Worthington and Marina Rutherfurd, co-owners and general managers, have redone the entire restaurant and the white-washed décor is “light and airy”— definitely my kind of place. Executive chef Lucia Soria’s menus will feature simple, yet powerful dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world and defined by the outstanding farms and fisheries of the East End.
Lunch, dinner and weekend brunches will be served in the dining room, at the bar, and outside on the covered porch. The lush, walled garden will have live music every Saturday night, as well as a variety of weekday events throughout the summer. And, last but certainly not least, to honor the real meaning of Memorial Day, the East Quogue Fire Department’s annual Memorial Day Parade kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, on Main Street.
