Sag Harbor Elementary School News, May 23

Sag Harbor Elementary School
School counselor Michelle Grant is coordinating different presentations and guests to teach about career awareness at Morning Program throughout the month of May. Nick Genender, the parent of one of our students and owner of the custom motorcycle company NYC Choppers, was our guest. He brought one of the custom bikes he built. Mr. Genender talked about first falling in love with models and engines when he was a boy. Growing up in Brooklyn he would see people working on their own cars and never realized that car or engine repair was an actual job. At first he was a clothing designer and manufacturer; later he combined his passion for design and art with his love of engines and created NYC Choppers. Mr. Genender stressed the importance of paying attention in school, the role art plays in any career, and the value of staying open-minded to any career.

Under the direction of teacher Lacey Price and speech pathologist Julia Midlam, members of the after-school Dance Club performed at Morning Program. Their theme was the 60s and the students broke up into smaller groups, selected a song from the decade, dressed in the look of the day, and performed a dance they had choreographed.

The annual spring concert will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 7 pm. with performances by the band, orchestra and guitar ensemble, as well as the small and large choruses. Family, friends and community members are welcome to attend.
