If you happen to stop by the Southampton Town Animal Shelter in Hampton Bays this week, make sure you wish longtime Westhampton Beach resident Claire Frank a happy birthday. She celebrated her big day on Saturday, May 18. Happy birthday, Claire!
Congratulations go out this week to John Michael Powers, a 2009 graduate of Westhampton Beach High School. John graduated cum laude on May 11 from Norwich University in Vermont with a degree in political science. The very next day, John was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is now awaiting orders to report to Quantico, Virginia.

His family and friends are very proud of his commitment to serve his country and so is his community. Way to go, John!

Westhampton Beach Junior Fire Department members received a letter a few months ago form a mother in Texas whose son, Tyler, is battling cancer. She mentioned that Tyler is a big fan of the juniors and wished to have his bedroom decorated with fire-fighting equipment.

Well, our young firefighters packed up a box containing a helmet, SCBA mask, T-shirts, vests and other items and mailed it to him. Tyler’s mom said he was thrilled to get the package. Nice job, juniors!
