The Southampton baseball team, Pierson baseball team and Pierson softball team all had their playoff games postponed over the weekend due to bad weather and rescheduled for Tuesday, May 28.
Southampton, the top seed in the Class B bracket, was scheduled to host third seed Mattituck for the county championship on Tuesday, while Pierson, the top seed in the Class C bracket, was scheduled to host third seed Port Jeff. The Pierson softball team, also seeded first, was slated to begin a best-of-three series for the Suffolk County Class C title with second-seed Port Jefferson at home on Tuesday.
Those games all ended too late to be included in this week’s sports section, but coverage of the games can be found in this week’s news section and on 27east.com.
The Southampton baseball team had advanced to the county final with a pair of wins in its first two games, beating Babylon on May 17 and Center Moriches on May 20. Because the playoffs follow a double-elimination format, the Mariners would still have another shot to win the county title even if they lost on Tuesday. That game, if necessary, was scheduled for Wednesday, May 29.
Pierson advanced to the ‘C’ title game by beating Southold on May 17, and like Southampton, would get another shot at a county title even with a loss to Port Jeff on Tuesday.
The Pierson softball team was slated to play at Port Jefferson in game two on Wednesday, May 29. A third game, if necessary, is slated for Thursday, May 30, in Sag Harbor.
