UPDATE: Police Charge Two With DWI After Crash In Napeague Sunday Morning

UPDATE, 12:45 p.m.:

Two drivers involved in the three-car crash that left them both seriously injured were driving drunk, according to East Hampton Town Police.

Nicole Zizelis, 51, of Amagansett was driving a 2010 Honda Accord in the westbound lane of Montauk Highway when she collided with an eastbound 2008 Jeep Wrangler driven by Hari Kalyan, 33, of Brooklyn shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday morning. A third vehicle, a taxi being operated by Muhammad Fahim, 27, of Islandia, then struck the Jeep, police said.

East Hampton Town Police charged Ms. Zizelis and Mr. Kalyan with DWI, a misdemeanor, and released them both on appearance tickets. They are due back in court at a later date. Mr. Fahim has not been charged, and was not injured in the crash.

Police said Mr. Kalyan was transported to Stony Brook Hospital by a Suffolk County Medevac Helicopter. Ms. Zizelis was transported by ambulance to Southampton Hospital.

A three car accident on Montauk Highway in Napeague sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries early Sunday morning .

East Hampton Town Police have closed Montauk Highway in both directions at the intersection with Napeague Meadow Road while they investigate the accident. Police said the highway will remain closed until mid-morning. Traffic is being routed around the accident scene.

The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. A Honda Accord, Jeep Wrangler and a taxi cab were involved in the accident. The drivers of both the Honda and Jeep suffered serious injuries. The taxi driver was not injured.

One person was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and a second was taken by ambulance to Southampton Hospital. +++
