Remsenburg And Speonk Community Notes, May 30

The winter wind seems to be blowing out and with it the imperative of staying in the barn, and pounding nails, and breathing sawdust, and laboring at needful things. Finally, I can start thinking of morning rides and beach days with the family. And enjoying cocktails with returning summer friends while planning parties and talking about what they’ve done with the golf course.
The tack room is almost finished and looks like a horse lover’s hideout. When I was a teenager, I remember spending long summer days in a tack room with my horsey friends and barn cats and the sweet, dusty smell of hay and the after-shave aroma of leather tack. Our own barn cat, who had been perfectly happy with her bales of hay, will no doubt be glad to see our sawing and pounding gone.
