Country music legend Willie Nelson will perform at the Surf Lodge in Montauk on Sunday, June 9, starting at 7 p.m.
The Surf Lodge has recommended that concertgoers arrive by 6 p.m. because parking is limited and a large crowd is anticipated.
East Hampton Town Police Chief Eddie Ecker Jr. said his department is currently working out a plan to reduce traffic congestion and ensure concertgoers’ safety.
“We’re anticipating extra officers down there and we’ll probably put Marine Patrol officers by the water in the backside of the place,” he said on Monday. “Only so many people will be allowed into the event and we’re working closely with the East Hampton fire marshal and code enforcement people.”
Chief Ecker said people who are not going to the event can help alleviate traffic by going around the area and not through it.
“Our biggest concern is certainly that pedestrian traffic stays off the road, and that cabs and other cars don’t block the streets so that emergency vehicles can get through as safely as possible.”
To reserve a seat, the Surf Lodge has requested that patrons donate $100 to the Montauk Playhouse restoration project by logging onto www.montaukplayhouse.org. The Surf Lodge has a listing of other upcoming shows at its website, www.thesurflodge.com.
