A former Montauk resident accused of spying on tenants at his rental home in Springs was arraigned in Suffolk County Criminal Court on Wednesday. Donald J. Torr, 69, of Celebration, Florida, had been arrested at home by U.S. Marshals on May 21 and charged with 14 felony counts of unlawful surveillance as well as nine misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to East Hampton Town Police Detective Lieutenant Chris Anderson.
East Hampton Town Police said they were called to the rental house on Winterberry Lane in Springs on August 31, 2012, after a tenant discovered several small hidden cameras throughout the home. An investigation by East Hampton Town detectives, who were assisted by the Suffolk County Police Department, followed, leading to a grand jury indictment of Mr. Orr.
Further details about Wednesday’s arraignment, which was scheduled for about 2 p.m., according to Detective Lieutenant Anderson, were not immediately available.
