The Eastport South Manor High School graduation is tomorrow night, June 21, at 7 p.m. in the gym, and I’m not certain I am ready. But it’s official. They have their caps and gowns, and the diplomas are signed and ready for distribution. It’s strange to think that tomorrow night is the last time I will have to officially drive to that school. How many times have I made that trip?

Kindergarten with Mrs. Wells seems like it happened yesterday. First grade with Mrs. Noyes. Fourth grade with Mr. Butler. Dr. Salamone as principal. Moving over to the new, big school for junior high. Early morning bus rides. Marching band. Theater. Concerts and performances.

It went by all too quickly. Yeah, I know, everyone says that. So, now we have two stickers on all of our cars. One says “Williams College.” The other, “St. Lawrence University.” I am very proud of that. I am very proud of them.

Congratulations to the Eastport South Manor High School Class of 2013.

The voice recital for students of Kelley Nassief took place on Saturday, June 15, at the East Moriches United Methodist Church. Performing that day were Caitlin McCarthy, Eric Beker, Samantha Passarella, Luisa Skarka and Kristina Devers. Priscilla Tuttle of Eastport was the piano accompanist.

This was Caitlin’s and Kristina’s senior recital and they each performed three songs. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the beautiful recital.

Vacation Bible School at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church will take place from July 28 through August 1, from 5:45 to 8 p.m. each day, at the church on Quiogue. The cost is $20 per child and you can register by calling (631) 288-2576.

Congratulations to Kelly Doyle and Danielle Plank of Eastport who were named to the dean’s list at SUNY at Oneonta for the spring semester.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Westhampton will be hosting its annual carnival at Lufker Airport on Montauk Highway in East Moriches this week. This is a new location for the carnival. Discount tickets will be given to local student Key Club members.

The carnival, which actually began on Wednesday night, runs through Sunday, June 23. Tickets are $25 per person ($30 on Saturday because of a cool fireworks display), and carnival hours are 5 to 11 p.m. each night.

A Community Yard Sale sponsored by the Seatuck Cove Rotary Club will be held on Saturday, June 22. (The rain date is Saturday, June 29.) All items have been donated.

Gates will open at 8 a.m. at the South Bay Bible Church, 578 Montauk Highway, East Moriches. Appraisals will be done by Rotarian Wendy Walsh and all proceeds will be donated to charity.

A blood drive sponsored by State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. will be held at the Center Moriches Elementary School on Friday, July 5, from noon to 6 p.m. The school is located at 511 Main Street in Center Moriches. Donors do not need to make an appointment; walk-ins are welcome.
