The Parrish Art Museum will be offering summer painting classes with Barbara Thomas starting on Wednesday, July 10.
Ms. Thomas has been painting the landscape, seascape and the gardens and houses of the East End for 35 years. For the past three years she has taught garden painting classes with the Parrish.
During these newest painting classes, students have had an opportunity to observe and paint nature, including flowers, trees, waterways, grasses and garden architecture. Ms. Thomas will also share some of her tricks of the trade for capturing color and light, shadows, tree forms, distance, cloud formations and everything else that challenges the plein air artist.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays, from July 10 through August 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill. Each class will begin with a short look at one of the many historical paintings in the museum collection, to gain a bit of understanding of the vision and techniques of the artist. The class will then set up on the grounds of the Parrish.
