The Tuckahoe Board of Education on Monday unanimously voted in what may be its last School Board chairman and vice chairman.
On Monday evening, board members appointed Robert Grisnik to a one-year term as chairman of the board, and Harald Steudte as vice chairman. If a pending merger with the Southampton School District goes through next year, the three sitting members, Mr. Grisnik, Mr. Steudte and Daniel Crough, will be Tuckahoe’s last School Board before the districts combine.
“It is kind of a historic moment right now,” Mr. Grisnik acknowledged.
Mr. Grisnik is the owner and pharmacist at Southrifty Drug in Southampton Village. He first joined the board in 1982, when he was elected to a one-year term. He subsequently lost a reelection bid, then was elected back onto the board in 1985. He has served ever since.
Mr. Steudte is a Southampton High School graduate and attended the University of North Carolina and Suffolk County Community College. He has owned and operated a construction and remodeling company for 45 years. A former Southampton Village Board member and Southampton Fire Department member, Mr. Steudte has served periodically on the board for more than 15 years beginning in the late 1980s.
