Space is still available for boats to enter the second annual Antigua Barbuda Hamptons Challenge sailing race, set for Saturday, August 17, in Sag Harbor.
The final day for registration is August 10. The event offers the richest prize in all of the Northeast—an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning boat captain and six crew members to Sailing Week in Antigua at the end of April 2014. The trip includes airfare from American Airlines, accommodations in a four-star hotel, and the use of a boat to compete in Antigua’s Sailing Week.
The race is open to monohull sailboats of no less than 22 feet LOA and a PHRF of 200 or less. All entrants must be a member of Eastern Long Island Yachting Association or an ELIYA-affiliated club.
The entry fee is $150 and includes two tickets to the banquet at the Breakwater Yacht Club following the race. Boats must be registered at antiguabarbudahamptonschallenge.com.
The race benefits two local charities: the Breakwater Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program, and i-Tri, a community-based intervention program in the Hamptons that teaches at-risk adolescent girls self-respect, personal empowerment, positive body image and healthy lifestyles through the sport of triathlon.
