A 15-year-old girl was flown to Stony Brook University Medical Center on Tuesday after she was struck by a van while riding her bicycle, according to Southampton Village Police.
At 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Dermot Odwyer, 53, of East Hampton was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Express van southbound on Flying Point Road when he struck the 15-year-old, whom police did not identify. She was coming out of a driveway on the west side of the road, according to a press release issued by Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison of the Southampton Village Police Department.
The Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene. The girl was stabilized and transported by Suffolk County Police Medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Neither the driver nor a passenger in the vehicle was injured as a result of the accident, although police report Mr. Odwyer was in shock following the incident.
