Former Bridgehampton Residents Andrew Acker And Miriam Acker Interred In Private Memorial Service On July 23

Andrew Acker, a Bridgehampton native who for many years ran a plumbing business there, died in Sun City Center, Florida, on May 31. He was 97.

Mr. Acker was born in Bridgehampton on November 20, 1915, the son of Andrew Acker Sr. and Lois Merwin. He graduated from Bridgehampton High School in 1934. During World War II, he built submarines at Electric Boat Co. in Groton, Connecticut.

Mr. Acker is survived by two sons, Andrew Acker III of Kansas and Keith Acker of Connecticut; a daughter, Marilynn Ezell of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren, Alexander Acker, Denise Acker, Marcella Acker, Joseph Scott, Laurel Scott, Scott Ezell, Alison Ezell, Michael Acker and Christian Acker; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by Miriam, his wife for 68 years, in 2010; and four sisters, Lois Blanchford, Madge Williams, Florence Williams and Ruth Geyer.

Mr. Acker’s ashes, along with his wife’s ashes, were interred in a private service at Edgewood Cemetery in Bridgehampton on July 23. Ms. Acker’s obituary follows.

Miriam Acker, a longtime resident of Bridgehampton, died in Sun City Center, Florida, on November 13, 2010. She was 93.

Ms. Acker was born in Riverhead, the daughter of Frank Woodhull, a cranberry farmer and real estate developer, and Isabelle Luce, a schoolteacher. She was valedictorian at Riverhead High School in 1936 and graduated from Cornell University. She taught grade school in Bridgehampton and later in Springs. For 68 years, she was married to Andrew Acker, a local plumbing contractor.

Ms. Acker is survived by two sons, Andrew Acker III of Kansas and Keith Acker of Connecticut; a daughter, Marilynn Ezell of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren: Alexander Acker, Denise Acker, Marcella Acker, Joseph Scott, Laurel Scott, Scott Ezell, Alison Ezell, Michael Acker and Christian Acker; and two nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Elliot Woodhull.

Ms. Acker’s ashes were interred, along with those of her husband, in a private service at Edgewood Cemetery in Bridgehampton on July 23.
