The cause of the fire at the furniture store is being investigated by the Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s office, according to officials.
According to Bridgehampton Fire Chief Gary Horsburgh, the department responded to the scene just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday and found flames coming out of the roof of the building. Firefighters quickly entered the building and did a preliminary search but did not find anyone inside the building.
On Tuesday morning, Mr. Horsburgh said the fire was particularly difficult to tame because all of the wooden furniture had to be repeatedly doused with water. Firefighters were on scene until 1:30 a.m. Montauk Highway between Snake Hollow Road and Butter Lane during that time.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Both the Sag Harbor and Southampton Village Fire Departments were also on scene.
A fire at a Bridgehampton furniture store late Monday night closed Montauk Highway to traffic for a time.
Firefighters brought the blaze at Deckline of America, located directly across from the Bridgehampton National Bank headquarters, under control in about 30 minutes. The store was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Bridgehampton firefighters responded to the scene and were aided by the Sag Harbor and Southampton fire departments.
