Former Hampton Bays Resident Jaime Durand Dies August 16; Doris Noble Dies August 17

Former Hampton Bays resident Jaime A. Durand, 53, and his mother-in-law, Doris Noble, the husband and mother of Susan Noble Durand, died within one day of each other, Mr. Durand on August 16 and Ms. Noble on August 17, her 81st birthday. Mr. Durand died of a heart attack at his home in Vernon, New Jersey, while his wife was in Hampton Bays caring for her mother, who was dying of cancer at Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Mr. Durand was born in Englewood, New Jersey, but lived in Hampton Bays during his childhood. He and his wife, to whom he was married for 32 years, were graduates of Hampton Bays High School. He was a mechanical contractor and the owner of ATM Mechanical Construction Inc.

He was one of five sons of the late Richard B. Durand and Sheila (Allen) Durand. He was predeceased by three of his brothers, Keith, Beau and Dale. He is survived by his oldest brother, Richard and wife Sharon of Hampton Bays; two brothers-in-law, Gary Noble of New Jersey and Robert Noble of Hampton Bays; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Uhlfelder of Hampton Bays.

Ms. Noble was the wife of the late Frederick Noble. She was born in Astoria and for many years lived in Hampton Bays, where she raised her family.

In addition to Susan, she is survived by another daughter, Arlene Uhlfelder of Hampton Bays; two sons, Gary Noble of New Jersey and Robert Noble of Hampton Bays; a sister, Elaine Bedyan of Hampton Bays; and grandchildren, Danielle Uhlfelder Doscher and husband Andrew, John Uhlfelder, and Derek F. and Lauren T. Durand. She was predeceased by a son, Edward Noble; and son-in-law, Jaime Durand.

Visiting hours for Mr. Durand were on August 20 at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A funeral service was held on August 21 at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary in Hampton Bays, where he and his wife were married and their children baptized. The Reverend Jay Collins and the Reverend Vijay Thomas, a family friend, officiated.

Visiting hours for Ms. Noble will be Thursday, August 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A funeral will be held at the Church of St. Mary on Friday, August 23, which is her son-in-law’s birthday, at 11 a.m.
